  1. Data resource: LWIC - Pillbug Survey

Public survey of the occurrence of pill woodlouse and pill millipede in the Lothians.

  2. Data resource: LWIC - Squirrel Survey (public)

A public survey run by the Lothian Wildlife Information Centre to record squirrels in the Lothians.

  3. Data resource: lynx prey

  4. Data resource: Macro mosths

  5. Data resource: Macro-moth distribution records for the UK from Butterfly Conservation, up to 2019

UK macro-moth (larger moths) distribution data from the National Moth Recording Scheme (NMRS) database, run by Butterfly Conservation. This dataset comprises occurrence records of macro-moths collected by volunteers, professionals and the public. The data include records of all macro-moth species, excluding adventives and introductions. Records were made from a wide range of terrestrial habitats and throughout the year and were collated from multiple source datasets or surveys. All records were checked by local taxonomic expert volunteers (County Recorders) prior to inclusion. Records are presented at 2km x 2km (tetrad) grid square resolution (unless deemed to be sensitive records). For more information about moths, recording and the UK recording scheme please visit https://butterfly-conservation.org/moths.

  6. Data resource: Macrobenthos Data from Shoreham, the Tyne and the Thames Estuaries, UK, 2000 to 2006 - Version 1.4

These data describe counts of macrobenthic infauna (with associated station metadata) taken from sediment samples collected at sites in the Tyne, Thames and Shoreham, UK from 2000 to 2006. For selected samples, wet biomass data is also included per taxon. The samples from the Shoreham site were collected across an aggregate extraction area over 4 years with the aim to test several habitat mapping techniques by documenting the presence of different faunal levels across the area. The samples collected at the Tyne and Thames were initiated at former sewage sludge disposal sites. Cefas conducted annual sampling in these areas during and post cessation of sewage disposal after January 1999 to monitor the benthic macrofauna community. To obtain the macrofauna, sediment samples were collected using a sediment samples collected using a Day Grab (Van Veen, 0.1m2) or a Hamon grab (either 0.1m2 or 0.25m2), depending on the area and nature of the sediments. Samples were then immediately sieved on board with running seawater over a 0.5mm and/or 1mm mesh sieve to remove the sediment. After sieving, the samples were preserved in 5% buffered formaldehyde. On return to the laboratory, the samples were washed to remove the formaldehyde and the macrofauna extracted using light microscopy and preserved in 70% Industrial Methylated Spirit. Animals were identified to the lowest taxonomic level possible and each taxon enumerated to generate the abundance information. The in some samples, the same animals were then weighed after blotting (wet weight) to the nearest 0.0001g to obtain biomass information.

  8. Data resource: Mains of Kinblethmont Solar Park Amphibian Records 2014

Amphibian species recorded during a Great Crested Newt (GCN) presence survey of a pond with suitable habitat for GCN. The GCN survey was carried out to inform the Ecological Appraisal for a potential solar park.

  9. Data resource: Malcolm Storey personal records and images

Wildlife photography and associated records. Except for easily recognisable species, all were identified in the lab using a stereo or compound microscope and the then-current literature.

  10. Data resource: Mammal Check for WMP

  11. Data resource: Mammal Mapper App Sighting Records

iRecord verified public sightings of mammals collected using a free smart phone recording app - Mammal Mapper. This dataset contains records of all terrestrial mammals from across the UK, collected primarily by members of the public using the free Mammal Mapper smart phone app. Records include both presence only sightings and survey effort associted sightings. Survey effort (stored separately) is recorded by using the phone's inbuilt GPS to store the track taken by the observer, providing distance travelled and time spent looking for and recording mammals.

  12. Data resource: Mammal Records (West Wales)

Mammal records held by WWBIC for Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion and Pembrokeshire excluding records that have already been uploaded by WWBIC to the NBN Atlas in other datasets.

  13. Data resource: Mammal records captured from Licence Returns submitted to Natural Resources Wales

This dataset is comprisesd of records of mainly mammal species across Wales obtained from former Countryside Council for Wales' and Natural Resources Wales' survey, monitoring and research licence return forms for scheduled mammal species. Records were captured by Cofnod during 2016, from a batch of forms held by Natural Resources Wales, but further forms are held by NRW. This dataset does not represent a systematic coverage or survey of Wales. Location of records is generally random, depending on the requirements of the licence holders. This dataset includes Sensitive species records (as described in our Data Sourcing, Management and Use policy available from the Cofnod website), for which any attached comments have been removed (grid references and site names are automatically blurred by the Atlas).

  14. Data resource: Mammal records for Dumfries and Galloway

Records of mammals held in custodianship by DGERC.

  15. Data resource: Mammal records from Britain from the Atlas of Mammals (1993), with some subsequent records

This dataset consists largely of BRC mammal data used to create the 1993 'Atlas of mammals in Britain'. The data were collected by volunteers from the former Mammal Recording Scheme. Recording cards from the dataset were input to electronic format in BRC.

  17. Data resource: Mammals, reptiles and amph

  18. Data resource: Mammals, reptiles and amphibians

  19. Data resource: MammalWeb records

MammalWeb is a "citizen science" platform intended to collate, validate and curate camera trap data that can inform us about the distribution and ecology of mammals. We invite any camera trap user to upload data from camera traps they have deployed, telling us where the camera trap was located. They and other users can classify the image sequences (which might include a series of 1 or more photos, or a video). Image contributors are identified by their MammalWeb ID under the recordedBy field; classifiers are identified by their MammalWeb ID under the identifiedBy field. Image sequences that have been classified by only one user are designated <Unconfirmed, not reviewed>. Those that have been classified by more than one user are only provided if the majority agree, and are designated <Accepted, considered correct>. One record per species seen, per site, per day is submitted to the repository.
