  1. Data resource: Yorkshire Naturalists Union Marine and Coastal Section Records

Species records gathered during field meetings of the YNU Marine and Coastal Section since 2011, as well as records gathered during a marine life identification course in 2010. This dataset does not contain any mollusc records, as these have been provided to the Conchological Society.

  3. Data resource: Yorkshire Wildlife Trust - Non-sensitive records from all taxonomic groups

This dataset is part of a pilot project of Yorkshire and Humber Environmental Data Network (YHEDN) to mobilise LRC data and Naturalist data from our region more widely. The data has been collated into 2 datasets for NBN (Sensitive and non-sensitive species) with the original survey name as an attribute. More detailed meta-data can be obtained for individual surveys on request from the centre. Currently Sensitive species includes all bats, badgers and all birds of prey. Some data has been excluded altogether from these datasets until such time as we can clarify our authority to distribute it but this can be obtained directly from the trust.

  4. Data resource: Yorkshire Wildlife Trust - Records

Records generated by Yorkshire Wildlife Trust staff and volunteers, and public records submitted to YWT. Geographic range predominantly across Sheffield and Rotherham area. Dataset includes: Public casual records, YWT casual records, YWT monitoring and surveying records.

  5. Data resource: Yorkshire Wildlife Trust Shoresearch

Intertidal species records gathered through Yorkshire Wildlife Trust's Shoresearch project during 2010 - 2013.

  6. Data resource: Young Fish Survey Data 1981 to 2010 - Version 1.4

Total numbers of individual fish identified during the Cefas Young Fish Survey (YFS) which ran from 1981 to 2010. The survey deployed a light 2-meter beam trawl to survey inshore locations for small / young fish around the British Isles, predominantly along the south and east coasts. Total numbers of fish (identified to species or if not to the highest taxonomic level) were recorded at each station, and were measured in the majority of cases. The surveys were primarily undertaken to evaluate the abundance of juvenile sole and plaice, as well as providing further information on the abundance of other species of fish. The YFS formed part of the International Young Fish Survey, coordinated by ICES. The survey used commercial inshore vessels to sample with a light 2-meter beam trawl deployed at fixed (prime) stations, towed for a duration of 10-minues, with varying coverage of the British Isles over the time-series period. From 2000 onwards actual shot and haul positions were recorded, whereas prior to this a single generic position was given for a specific prime station. Fish species were nearly always measured, and on the very few occasions that they were not they were counted. These data are currently undergoing quality assurance. Species-specific records for gobies are known to contain taxonomic errors, and analyses should be undertaken on data aggregated to the level of family (Gobiidae). Data for sand smelt Atherina spp. and smelt Osmerus eperlanus may also be confounded, and data for these taxa should be interpreted with particular care.
